Garden by the Sea B&B
B&B $$
( 340-779-4731;

; r incl breakfast $250-275; )
Fans
of B&Bs swoon over this place. The owners live on site and have splashed the three rooms
in bright hues of sea green, lavender and blueberry, each with a sturdy, four-post canopy
bed and private bathroom. Rid your mind of luxury - it's more about good, honest com-
fort here. Solar panels provide the electricity. They serve the hot breakfast on the veranda,
where birds flit by from the nearby salt pond. The B&B is located a block and a half from
Frank Bay beach, and is an easy 10-minute walk into town. Cash or traveler's checks only.
Samuel Cottages
COTTAGES $$
( 340-776-6643;

;
4-person apt $125; )
These three
peach-colored cottages are a stiff 10-minute walk uphill from the ferry dock, but you'll be
hard-pressed to beat the value. They're sort of like state park cabins - nothing fancy, but
clean and spacious enough, with a fully equipped kitchen and deck for sitting and contem-
plating how much cash you're saving. A $25 per night surcharge applies for stays of three
nights or less.
Inn at Tamarind Court

;
s/d/q $75/148/240;
)
The rooms are small, thin-walled and lack frills such as private decks and water
views, but Tamarind Inn does try hard with its friendly staff, bamboo-and-tiki decor and
jumpin' courtyard bar-restaurant. A separate building holds six single rooms sharing two
bathrooms. The central location and economical rates makes Tamarind popular with budget
travelers. It's located along busy Rte 104 (aka Southside Rd), a short walk from the town
center. The free wi-fi is available in the courtyard only (no in-room access).
Serendip Condos
APARTMENTS $$
( 340-776-6646, 888-800-6445;

; apt $225-295; )
On the hill above Cruz Bay, Serendip offers a lot for a moderate price. But you must have
transportation, or not mind the 0.75-mile hike along Rte 104 (Southside Rd) to town. There
are 10 studios and one-bedroom units in three-story concrete buildings. Each unit has a
private balcony with sea view, a full kitchen, TV, wi-fi and beach chairs and a cooler you
can take to the beach. Furnishings have a Pier 1 Imports flare. The on-site laundry facilities
are handy. Prices and the seven-day stay requirement may be negotiable if you call at the
last minute and there is space available.
