Tours
The street in front of the Cruz Bay ferry dock swarms with cabs offering island tours. A
two-hour circuit of the island costs $50 for one passenger; it's $25 each for two or more.
Sleeping
St John's accommodations appeal to two groups: one group is upper-middle-class vacation-
ers fond of villas and resorts, the other adventure travelers keen on camping and ecotour-
ism (for which they must head to the North Shore). There's not much in the middle range.
Properties add an 8% hotel tax to your bill, and many also charge a 10% service fee (some-
times called an 'energy surcharge') on top.
CRUISE SHIP CROWDS
St Thomas' cruise ship traffic spills over to St John. Many passengers make a quick
trip over when they're in port, which can impact St John's car rental capacity and
beach crowds (especially at Trunk Bay). Tuesdays and Wednesdays typically see the
most cruise traffic. Check VI Now( www.vinow.com ) for the daily ship schedule to
know what to expect during your visit.
