dysarthria, hypokinetic (Parkinson’s disease)

Difficulties with speech that are the result of bradykinesia involving the muscles of the mouth, throat, and chest (breathing). Hypokinetic means “undermoving.” This is the speech problem characteristic of Parkinson’s disease, which typically includes changes in voice quality, volume, and modulation. The person with Parkinson’s may take more time to form words. Speech therapy can help the person learn techniques for breath control and other ways to improve speech.
