Measuring machines (Metrology)

17.1.

Introduction

Measuring machines are generally used for measurement of length over the outer faces of a length bar or any other long member with ends that may be either rounded, or flat and parallel. The need of measuring machines is realized over vernier calipers, micrometer screw gauges etc., for linear measurement work due to measurement of considerably greater dimensions. The measuring machines are generally of more universal character and can undertake works of varied nature. A number of measuring machines of various designs are available, out of which some are discussed here.
