ISOPOLYESTER COMPOSITES

An isopolyester composite is used to retrofit concrete causeway support columns. The Snap-Tite composite jacket will use isopolyester made with purified isophthalic acid (PIA). Iso-polyesters have a proven record of delivering corrosion resistance and mechanical strength at less cost. The resin encapsulates the reinforcing network, which for most applications is conventional e-glass woven roving and bidirectional fabric. As a result, the compressive strength of the columns will reportedly more than double, to 83 MPa or more, and the ductility will improve from 3 to 10%.
