On Saturday, in contention for the lead during the third round, Irwin whiffed a 2-inch tap-in on the par-3 14th. On Sunday, he lost the championship to Tom Watson by one stroke. “I guess I lifted my head,” he said afterward, “because my club just bounced over the ball.”
