Founded in 1905, the Twentieth Street Bank was long the centerpiece of the busy East Hunt-
ington business community. Here the bank's sturdy stone building at the corner of Third Av-
enue and Twentieth Street is surrounded by the 1913 floodwaters. With the riverbank only
blocks away, the neighborhood's homes, businesses, and factories were quickly inundated.
