In-Depth Information
The American Red Cross worked with the National Guard and the U.S. Army to establish
tent cities to house refugees driven from their homes by the 1937 flood. The location of this
camp is unidentified. It could have been any one of dozens established in various spots
throughout the Ohio Valley. Given their military origins, the camps were far from luxurious.
Nevertheless, the pyramid-shaped tents were a welcome sight to many refugees who had
prayed they would find a safe, dry place to stay.
