altitude levels that exceed 2,000 m, whereas this class of altitude levels make up 2%
of the total altitude range in France). Isola (which is located in the extreme southeast
of France) was the rain station that was located at the highest altitude (at 2,509 m).
This means that there is currently no information available for altitude levels up to
2,509 m. Therefore, regarding climatology, altitude levels of more than 2,509 m can
be considered as unknown space. The over-representation of lower altitude levels
does not affect statistical analysis (this fact was proven by randomly removing the
surplus rain station). On the contrary, it is not recommended to carry out a process
of extrapolation in areas that have an altitude greater than 2,300 m due to the lack of
data available for this altitude level.

information on total rainfall is provided; August values (1971-2000 average).
