The worst drought in Masindi occurred in the period of January to
June 1983 with a severity of 16.33. The overall deficit in these 6 months
was 578 mm. In Rakai, the worst drought occurred in the period of June
1953 to August 1954 with a severity index of 16.38. The calculated deficit
in these 15 months was 947 mm. It should be noted that the drought with
the longest return period is not necessarily the most severe drought. The
periods with the highest drought volumes experience very severe droughts.
