Things You Need to Know
(Appendix)
Before you go
It's always a better idea to book shows in advance, especially for the theater. In regards
to this itinerary, we recommend booking any shows at the Southbank Centre and National
Theatre prior to arriving in London as well as Lewis Schaffer's Free Until Famous as free
tickets to this are known to run out. The Comedy Store is known to sell out most nights, but
you can usually get away with booking tickets on the day of the show during the week, not
weekends. Always book ahead if there is a certain performance or show you're really inter-
ested in.
On days two and three, we have have a picnic lunch scheduled in Hyde Park and St. James's
Park. Both these parks have cafes in case the weather is bad, you don't fancy a picnic lunch
or you forget to pick up food. If you do like the idea of it and are looking to save money on
meals, stores like Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose sell affordable sandwiches and more. We
give you two locations during the tour for day two, but not day three, so make sure you plan
ahead for this day.
As you might have noticed, this itinerary requires a fair bit or walking, an average of four
miles per day, so bring comfortable shoes. I've designed this itinerary that way, because I
find walking London is the best way to really get to know the city, it's also more affordable
then constantly taking the Tube and sometimes walking is quicker than public transportation
anyway. This itinerary can be modified to fit your needs simply by skipping a few attractions
or trading a walk for a Tube ride.
Transportation tips
Purchase an Oyster Card if you are staying in the city for more than a day. You'll have to put
a deposit of £5 on it, but it will save you a lot of money. Single fares are practically cut in
half with an Oyster Card and the card has a maximum of £7 per day, so after you reach that,
the rest of your travel is free.
The Tube closes around midnight depending on the station and line. Check to see when the
last train to your destination runs if you're planning to have a late night. If you want to stay
out later than that, buses run late (plus they're cheap) and black cabs will get you home, but
they're expensive.
