TERMAS DE RÍO HONDO
Halfway between Santiago del Estero and Tucumán, and served by regular buses
between them, this place is renowned nationwide as a winter destination for its
thermal water, and its nearly 200 hotels all have hot mineral baths. If you fancy a
spa treatment, it's a good stop, though there's little else of interest beyond its fam-
ous chocolates and alfajores(filled sandwich cookies). You can get some great
hotel deals here online, especially from November to April when much of town
shuts down.
