In-Depth Information
Cero Stress INTERNATIONAL $$$
(Av de los Pescadores; mains UR$290-360; noon-4pm & 8pm-midnight; ) This laid-back
spot features an eclectic menu, a rustic interior dining room and an open kitchen, but its
greatest asset by far is the outdoor deck, which offers amazing ocean views. It's the per-
fect place to sip a caipirinha (Brazilian cocktail with sugar-cane alcohol) at sunset while
contemplating your evening plans.
Lo de Olga SEAFOOD $$$
(mains UR$250-430; noon-3pm & 7-11pm) For delicious home-cooked fish and puffy-as-a-
cloud buñuelos de algas (seaweed fritters), try this simple family-run restaurant on the
way down to the port.
Information
Punta del Diablo has no ATMs except for the temporary ones set up briefly each summer.
Bring cash with you, as few businesses accept credit cards and the nearest banks are an
hour away in Castillos (40km southwest) or Chuy (45km north).
Getting There & Away
Rutas del Sol, COT and Cynsa all offer service to Punta del Diablo's dreary new bus ter-
minal, 2.5km west of town. Between Christmas and Carnaval, all buses terminate here,
leaving you with a five- to 10-minute shuttle (UR$25) or taxi (UR$100) ride into town.
During the rest of the year, buses continue from the terminal to the town plaza near the
waterfront.
Several direct buses run daily to Montevideo and Chuy on the Brazilian border; for
other coastal destinations, you'll usually need to change buses in Castillos or Rocha.
