Hostel de la Viuda HOSTEL $

US$56-90) It's a bit remote (2km southwest of the town center), but La Viuda offers good
amenities, including free bus-station pickup, a backyard pool, a spacious kitchen and a
comfy fireplace room perfect for enjoying games and movies or sipping hot chocolate at
night. It's a six-block walk from Playa La Viuda, Punta del Diablo's southern beach.

heart of town, these colorful two-level cabañas have upstairs decks, ocean views, and
satiny curtains and bedspreads. Owners José and Dahiana lived in the US for several
years and speak excellent English.
Eating
In high season, simply stroll the beachfront for your pick of seafood eateries and snack
shacks by the dozen. Eateries listed below are among the few that remain open in winter.
Another dependable year-round choice is the bar-restaurant at El Diablo Tranquilo
(mains from US$10).
Resto-Pub 70 ITALIAN $
(mains UR$200-260; noon-3pm Sat & Sun, 8pm-midnight daily mid-Dec-Easter) Run by a
mother-father-son trio of recent Italian immigrants, this portside eatery decorated with
Vespa paraphernalia serves divine homemade pasta, cantucci con vino dolce (almond bis-
cotti dipped in sweet wine) and limoncino (an artisanal liqueur made with fragrant
Uruguayan lemons). The lasagne alle cipolle (veggie lasagna with walnuts and caramel-
ized onions) is to die for.
