The city's main 'gayborhood' is the block of Arenas Rd east of S Indian Canyon Dr, with
about a dozen gay-themed bars, cafes and shops. Other venues are scattered throughout
town. The bars at Azul and Wang's in the Desert are also buzzy stops on the gay party cir-
cuit.

diverse male clientele, lots of TV screens, a cruisy dance scene and pool tables.

long-time visitors and occasional drag performers. There's a cozy streetside patio for
watching the crowds saunter by.
Toucan's Tiki Lounge ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.toucanstikilounge.com ; 2100 N Palm Canyon Dr;
noon-2am) North of town, this locals' hangout has something for everyone: tropical
froufrou, trivia, karaoke, drag revues, smoking patio and dance floor. Packed on week-
ends.

This tiny shack in the center of downtown Palm Springs serves the best burgers in town,
bar none. Waits are practically inevitable, which is presumably why there's an amazingly
well-stocked magazine rack. Cash only.

Vegan cooking guru Tanya Petrovna does an amazing job at injecting complex flavors into
meat and dairy substitutes. The creative sandwiches, southwestern salads, sizzling-hot rice
