The
Mountain Station
(8516ft), at the top of the tramway, has a bar, restaurant, obser-
vation area and theater showing documentary films. Beyond here sprawls the wilderness of
Mt San Jacinto State Park
, which is criss-crossed by hiking trails.
The turnoff for the tram is about 3 miles north of downtown Palm Springs.

See the evolution of American painting, sculpture, photography and glass art over the past
century. Alongside well-curated temporary exhibitions, the permanent collection is espe-
cially strong in modern painting and sculpture, with works by Henry Moore, Ed Ruscha,
Mark di Suvero and other heavy hitters. There's also stunning glass art by Dale Chihuly
and William Morris and a collection of pre-Columbian figurines.
The museum recently renovated an iconic 1961 mid-century modern bank building into
southern edge of downtown. Designed to pay tribute to the region's signature style, it
opened in late 2014 and is the first free-standing architecture and design museum housed
in a modern building.

The largest of the museums in the Village Green Heritage Center, this museum showcases
the history and culture of the Agua Caliente band of Cahuilla peoples through permanent
and changing exhibits and special events.

photos and memorabilia in the town's oldest building, the 1884 McCallum Adobe.
