Plate 4.44 (A) South American fanged water snake ( Ptychophis flavovirgatus ), São
Vicente de Minas, Brazil. Aside from lacking sexual dimorphism, and having reproductive
patterns somewhat predictably linked to dry and rainy seasons (Scartozzoni and Marques,
2004), there is scant information about the natural history of this little-known aquatic member
of the tribe, Tachymenini (Plate 4.44A).
