This cosy four-room B&B is one of the best-kept gems on Lantau. All rooms are tastefully
decorated; the 2nd-floor double room with a balcony overlooking the main Tai O waterway
gets booked up quickly. The friendly owner Veronica provides multilingual travel advice,
plus a hearty breakfast in the cafe. The jacuzzi on the rooftop is a delight.

SILVERMINE BEACH RESORT

HK$1480-1980; ; Mui Wo)
This 128-room hotel has rooms that look out to the hills, sideways to the bay and directly
onto the bay. It's nothing special, but it's the most convenient spot for a quick Lantau beach
getaway. Eschew the rooms in the south wing for those in the superior north wing. Rates are
negotiable.
WORTH A DETOUR
PO TOI
A solid favourite of weekend holidaymakers with their own seagoing transport, Po Toi
is the largest of a group of five islands - one is little more than a huge rock. Hong
Kong's territorial border lies just 2km to the south. Visitors frequent the seafood res-
taurants beyond the jetty at Tai W
i Wan, the main settlement, in the island's southwest.
There's some decent walking on Po Toi, a tiny Tin Ha
ple across the bay from
the pier, and, on the southern coast, rock formations that (supposedly) look like a
palm tree, a tortoise and a monk, and some mysterious rock c
in Hau t
u temple
ck carviings resembling styl-
ised animals and fish. You can see everything here in an hour.
Kaidorun to the ferry pier from Aberdeen and Stanley on Tuesdays, Thursdays,
weekends and public holidays.
Ming Kee Seafood Restaurant ( GOOGLE MAP ; 2849 7038; 11am-11pm) is one of a
handful of restaurants in the main village of Po Toi, and is by far the most popular with
day trippers. Make sure you book ahead on the weekend.
