BEACH BBQ, HONG KONG-STYLE
Show up at any Hong Kong beach or country park on a weekend, and you'll see
dozens, if not hundreds, of locals enthusiastically brandishing long sharp metal forks.
Ancient Hong Kong ritual? Sort of. Here in the SAR, barbecue parties at public
beaches and parks replace the kind of indoor or backyard entertaining done in coun-
tries where the average home size is larger.
Throwing your own BBQ is surprisingly easy and makes for a great day out. Here's a
list of items to bring:
Barbecue forks (sold at most supermarkets for around HK$3)
Tin foil and paper plates
Meat: pre-marinated chicken wings, fish balls, beef cubes and more are sold at most
supermarkets
Vegies (corn and mushrooms are good, easy picks)
Salt, oil and condiments of your choice
'Barbecue honey': This thick syrup is sold at supermarkets, and is used to baste
grilled bread, chicken wings, corn and much more
Bread
Charcoal and a lighter
Beer
