The high ceilings, rattan chairs and sparkling wooden flooring evoke the romantic vibes that
you'd expect from a beachfront hang-out in Bali. The interior is oriental minimalism, and
the open terrace is the best spot for a sundowner. The menu runs the gamut of seafood, satay
and curry.

A meal in the grand Verandah, run by the prestigious Peninsula, is a special occasion in-
deed. The large restaurant features a recently restored and refurbished interior that is liter-
ally dripping with colonial nostalgia, what with the grand piano at the entrance, the wooden
fans dangling from the ceiling, and the marble staircases with wooden banisters.
The Sunday brunch is famous (book ahead), and the afternoon tea the best this side of
Hong Kong Island.

Hidden on the quiet Shek O Back Beach, locals and expats munch burgers and sip cold
brews beneath a rustic awning. A sea-facing shrine stands right next to this rugged en-
semble. Enjoy reggae beats and the sound of the lapping waves while sipping beer.
From Shek O bus terminal, turn right into the path that leads to an abandoned school and
a health centre. The beach is at the end of the path.
