In-Depth Information
In a charming 1st-floor eyrie in Wan Chai's hip Star St district, this teeny cafe makes its ex-
quisite drip coffees and espresso drinks from fairly traded organic Cameroonian beans. Ask
about off-menu items like the cucumber cappuccino.
Wan Chai
BAR
PAWN
Sun; Wan Chai, exit A3)
This handsome three-storey establishment used to be a row of tenement houses and the
century-old Woo Cheong pawn shop. Now it's occupied by a restaurant and a bar. The
slouchy sofas with space to sprawl, shabby-chic interiors designed by a filmmaker, plus
great little terrace spaces overlooking the tram tracks, make this an ideal location to sample
a great selection of lagers, bitters and wine.
BAR
MES AMIS
noon-4am, happy hour 4-9pm; Wan Chai, exit C)
A slightly more stylish place in the lap of girly club land, Mes Amis has a good range of
wines and a Mediterranean-style snacks list. There's a DJ from 11pm on Friday and
Saturday. Mes Amis stays open till 6am Friday and Saturday.
BAR
CHAMPAGNE BAR
Chai, exit A1)
Take your fizz in the sumptuous surrounds of the Grand Hyatt's Champagne Room, kitted
out in art-deco furnishings to evoke Paris of the 1920s. Live blues or jazz happens most
evenings and the circular main bar is always busy.
LIVE MUSIC
DUSK TILL DAWN
3pm-7am Sat & Sun, happy hour 5-11pm; Wan Chai, exit C)
True to its name, when the other bars begin to peter out, Dusk Till Dawn is just getting star-
ted. A noisy Filipino rock band keeps the eclectic crowd of locals, expats and backpackers
dancing until the sun comes up.
