wood by Gene Koss, and Arcs in Disorder, one of the trademark works of
French artist Bernar Venet.
Continue walking down the middle walkway past Cudd Hall and the old
School of Social Work building to the left and Stanley Thomas Hall to the
right. You are now in Tulane's science-and-engineering hub, where in addi-
tion to the traditional sciences, students can choose from such majors as bio-
medical engineering, evolutionary biology, and computer science. One of the
newest buildings on campus is the Donna and Paul Flower Hall for Research
and Innovation, a contemporary four-story building set behind a towering
oak. With its cutting-edge labs, Flower serves as a vital part of the city's
growing bioscience and chemical-engineering sectors.
Just ahead is PJ's Coffee, where you can stop for an iced latte, mocha, or
lemonade—that is, unless students are between classes. That's when the café
is at its busiest, with professors and students grabbing cups of joe en route to
their next class.
Cross Freret Street, one of the major streets that runs through campus, and
continue straight onto McAlister Place, a landscaped pedestrian mall and
popular gathering spot. In the fall of 2013, actors Channing Tatum and Jo-
nah Hill filmed parts of 22 Jump Street along the walkway, attracting hun-
dreds of giddy, photo-snapping students—all on their way to class.
To the right is Devlin Fieldhouse, home of Tulane's men's and women's bas-
ketball teams. Just past Devlin is the Lavin-Bernick Center for University
Life, also known as the LBC. The LBC is home to the bookstore, dining ven-
ues, conference rooms, study lounges, and outdoor patios, including one that
overlooks the LBC Quad. On Friday afternoons, students begin the weekend
with “Fridays on the Quad,” a party featuring bands, food trucks, inflat-
ables, and other activities.
Across from the LBC are the ultramodern Goldring/Woldenberg Halls I and
II, home of the A. B. Freeman School of Business. Next door is McAlister
Auditorium, which boasts the world's largest self-suspended concrete dome.
The auditorium is used for concerts and lectures. In the fall of 2014, a scene
from the upcoming film Our Brand Is Crisis, produced by George Clooney
and starring Sandra Bullock, was shot here.
Turn left in front of the LBC and walk a block to Newcomb Place. Cross
Newcomb and enter the Newcomb Quad, once the home of H. Sophie New-
comb Memorial College, the first women's coordinate college within a US
