university. Walk around the Quad, beginning with Dixon Hall to your left.
Dixon is one of the city's most popular performance venues and home to the
acclaimed Summer Lyric Theatre. Other buildings on this part of campus in-
clude Newcomb Hall, the architectural centerpiece of Newcomb College;
Woldenberg Art Center, home to the Newcomb Art Gallery, which is free
and open to the public; and Dixon Hall Annex, where the New Orleans
Shakespeare Festival at Tulane and other performance ensembles are based.
Circle around the Quad and turn left at Newcomb Place. Walk a block past
the Caroline Richardson Building and the University Health Center to Wil-
low Street. Turn left on Willow and walk two blocks to Broadway Street.
Though not part of Tulane's campus, Broadway is the center of Greek life at
Tulane, with many of the homes occupied by fraternities and sororities.
Walk one block to Zimple Street. The high-rise to your left is Tulane's newest
residence hall—the Barbara Greenbaum House at Newcomb Lawn. Contin-
ue down Broadway past a strip of commericial establishments, including the
Mushroom record store and Crêpes à la Cart.
The large yellow building at the corner of Broadway and Burthe is home to
Tulane Hillel, which serves Tulane's significant Jewish student community.
Hillel's Kitchen is a fully kosher restaurant open to the public, with menu
items such as matzah ball soup, falafel, and bagels.
Continue walking south on Broadway toward St. Charles Avenue. Campus
Connection, at the corner of Maple Street, stocks an array of Greek mer-
chandise as well as a wide variety of Tulane T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats.
At St. Charles, turn left and walk to Audubon Place, one of the Crescent
City's most exclusive neighborhoods. Audubon Place is private, so you'll only
be able to catch a glimpse from outside the gates. Do take note of #2 Audu-
bon Place, the white-pillared mansion that fronts St. Charles. Built in 1907,
the Georgian Revival house was the home of United Fruit Company magnate
Samuel Zemurray for decades before he donated it to Tulane to serve as the
official residence of the university president.
Cross Audubon Place and continue walking past Gibson Hall back the start-
ing point.
