In-Depth Information
are a few diamonds in the rough, including pieces by Rembrandt, Courbet, Monet, and the
American painter Mary Cassatt. The building itself is impressive, and the museum café
is lovely. If it's raining and your Museum Pass has expired, the Petit Palais can make a
worthwhile detour.
Best Views over the City of Light
Your trip to Paris is played out in the streets, but the brilliance of the City of Light
can only be fully appreciated by rising above it all. Invest time to marvel at all the
man-made beauty, seen best in the early morning or around sunset. Many of the
viewpoints I've listed are free or covered by the Museum Pass; otherwise, expect to
pay €8-15. Here are some prime locations for soaking in the views:
Eiffel Tower: It's hard to find a grander view of Paris than from the tower's
second level. Go around sunset and stay after dark to see the tower illuminated; or
go in the early morning to avoid the midday haze and crowds (not covered by Mu-
seum Pass, see here ) .
