In-Depth Information
Fuel: Gas (essence) is expensive—about $8 per gallon. Diesel (gazole) is
less—about $7 per gallon—and diesel cars get better mileage, so try to rent a diesel to
save money. Be sure you know what type of fuel your car takes before you fill up. Gas
is most expensive on autoroutes and cheapest at big supermarkets (closed at night and on
Sun). Many gas stations close on Sunday. Your US credit and debit cards won't work at
self-servepumps;insteadyoucanpaycashorfindgasstationswithattendants,orconsider
getting a card that works with the chip-and-PIN system (see here ) . To avoid unhappy sur-
prises, fill your tank before it's very low.
