In-Depth Information
Directly behind the park information center, La Fiesta (504 Patricia St., 780/852-0404,
noon-11pm daily, $19-29) is a small eatery where the Mediterranean meets Mexico. It of-
fers a tapas-style menu of Mexican dishes ranging $7.50-13, as well as adventurous de-
lights such as cinnamon-chili chicken served with roasted orange jus. This is also the best
place in town for a martini.
Asian
The Cantonese Restaurant (608 Connaught Dr., 780/852-3559, noon-10pm daily,
$9.50-14) is the place to go for Chinese; set five-course menus for two start at just $35.
Denjiro (410 Connaught Dr., 780/852-3780, 5pm-11:30pm daily, $16-22) features a
traditional sushi bar and tatami booths for eating the Japanese cuisine; combination din-
ners average $22 per person.
The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
Jasper's premier accommodation, across the river from downtown, offers a choice of cas-
ual or elegant dining in a variety of restaurants and lounges. Across from the reception
area is a dedicated dining reservation desk, staffed 11am-8pm daily in summer, or call 780/
852-6052. Reservations are required for the Edith Cavell and Moose's Nook dining rooms.
Families appreciate the fact that children five and under eat free.
Downstairs in the shopping arcade, Meadows Restaurant is a casual room open
for a breakfast buffet 7am-11am daily (continental $24, full breakfast $32), and then
6pm-9pm Wednesday-Sunday in the summer only. The turnover of food is quick, meaning
everything remains fresh. Request a table away from the buffet for a quieter dining exper-
ience.
The Emerald Lounge (11:30am-10pm daily, $22-37) takes pride of place in the ex-
pansive lobby of the main building. Table settings of various configurations are spread
throughout the room while also sprawling out and along the Emerald Outdoor Patio,
from where views over picturesque Lac Beauvert to distant mountains are uninterrupted.
Both lunch and dinner menus feature imaginative modern Canadian cuisine, but with din-
ner (from 5:30pm) being decidedly more expensive. At lunch, salads can be made into a
full meal by adding extras such as smoked salmon and slices of chicken breast, or stick to
mains such as bison burger.
