At the top end of the main street, Café Books (826 Main St., 403/678-0908,
9:30am-8pm daily) stocks an excellent selection of Canadiana, including hiking guides,
coffee-table-style pictorials, Rocky Mountain cookbooks, and calendars, as well as nonfic-
tion by local authors. Search out children's topics toward the back. With a huge collection
of used topics, Second Story (713 8th St., 403/609-2368, 9am-6pm daily) hasn't been on
the second floor since the weight of the topics forced a move downstairs to the basement of
the same address. Second Story's selection of nonfiction Canadiana is particularly strong.
SERVICES
The post office (8:30am-6pm Mon.-Fri.) is on 7th Avenue, beside Rusticana Grocery. The
Lost Sock laundry (in the small mall on 7th Ave. at 10th St.) is open 24 hours daily and
has Internet access. Canmore Hospital is along Bow Valley Trail (403/678-5536). For the

In addition to major hotels, send and receive email and surf the Internet at the following

Getting There and Around
GETTING THERE
Canmore is beside the TransCanada Highway (Hwy. 1), 106 kilometers (66 miles) west of
Calgary and 22 kilometers (14 miles) east of Banff. Allow just over 1 hour to drive from
downtown Calgary and around 1.5 hours from Calgary International Airport.
Banff Airporter (403/762-3330, www.banffairporter.com ) offers service between
Canmore's Radisson Hotel and Calgary International Airport. The cost from Calgary is
around $55 one-way. A desk at the airport's Arrivals level takes bookings, but it's best to
reserve a seat by booking over the phone or online in advance.
Greyhound pulls into 701 Bow Valley Trail (403/678-3807, www.greyhound.ca ) and
offers regular services to Calgary, Banff, and beyond.
