over the horizon, particularly on Spring Tides so in common with a number of other
beaches it is best to visit on days with neap tides, as there will be water close by for most
of the day. On Spring Tides it is suitable for swimming in the mornings and evenings al-
though care should be exercised as the tide runs with surprising speed close to the end of
the pier, which could create significant difficulties for some swimmers.
It is very exposed to easterly winds so it is best to visit when there is a westerly or northerly
wind blowing, as it is very sheltered at these times.
There is parking, public toilets and refreshments available.
Royal Bay of Grouville: The largest bay on the east coast of the island, its long expanse
of sand provides safe bathing when the tide is in but when it recedes it is a long walk to the
waters edge. The most suitable part of the bay is just south of Gorey, close to the large car
park at Long Beach. There are a number of slips along the bay, which offer limited parking
and access to the beach.
