In-Depth Information
Portelet is a lovely beach, which rarely becomes crowded. There is great swimming both
off the beach and off the rocks.
Belcroute Bay: A sheltered east-facing beach, which loses the sun very early in the day
but is ideal for an early morning high tide swim. Steep pebbles at high water are replaced
by more gently sloping sand towards low water. There is limited parking available on the
approach to the slip. No toilets or refreshments available.
St Aubin's Bay: The large bay stretches from St Aubins around to St Helier. There is
plenty of parking (although it is important to check whether scratch cards are needed) and
a number of cafes spread throughout the bay.
The sandy beach has a gentle gradient, which means that on spring tides the sea drops a
considerable distance. A consequence is that the bay is more suited to those weeks when
its neap tides and high water occurs around midday. On Spring tides the bay is ideal for a
morning or evening swim, as it will be high water.
St Aubin's is a perfect bay for families with young children, the sand great for playing on
and the bathing safe. There is a water sports centre at La Haule slip. There is no lifeguard
cover in the bay but that should not prevent anybody enjoying activities in the sea as long
as sensible precautions are taken.
There are public toilets at West Park, First Tower, Millbrook, Bel Royal, Beaumont, La
Haule and St Aubin.
Refreshments are available at all of the above places plus several small kiosks in between
some of the cafes.
