Beaches
Jersey's beaches are as good as anywhere and, in my view, probably better than many places
in the UK and further afield. The fact Jersey is an island means that there is always some-
where sheltered for the sun worshipper to lay their towel, regardless of the wind direction.
St Brelade's Bay is the most popular and it marks the starting point for the journey around
the island. The beaches are described in an anti-clockwise direction, which means that we
head east first from St Brelade's.
St Brelade's Bay: The most popular beach on the Island and it has been voted number 6
of the top 10 beaches in the British Isles by the readers of Trip Advisor , many question why
it isn't higher! The long stretches of golden sands are ideal for families and lovers of wa-
ter sports alike with several providers offering a range of activities. Kayaking, banana rides,
wind surfing, stand up paddle boarding, coasteering are all possible, from a couple of com-
mercial providers who are based on the beach. A long the beach there are several places to
hire deck chairs and even beach tents.
I always feel that the best time to see St Brelade's Bay is at high water, so either in the morn-
ings or evenings on spring tides and around midday on neap tides.
On a sunny summer afternoon St Brelade's will, without doubt, be the busiest beach on the
island. There are several car parks, most of which require parking scratch cards during the
summer months but each card is valid for 2 hours as opposed to 1 hour in St Helier.
There are 4 public toilets spread throughout the bay, 2 are in car parks on the opposite side of
the road to the beach. There are numerous cafes and restaurants to suit the tastes and pockets
of all visitors.
