In-Depth Information
There is always amazing attention to detail on the floats.
There is fierce rivalry between the various Parishes in addition to the many other organ-
isations, which enter floats into the Battle. It is difficult to comprehend at times just how
much energy and effort has been put into designing and making the floats, by the numer-
ous volunteers from across the island. The result of all the hard work is obvious on the
Thursday afternoon as the Parade commences.
If you are on the Island during the week of The Battle it is a must see event. There is a
fee for entry and the times are usually 14.00-17.30 but it is best to check on the Battle of
Flowers website.
Battle of Flowers Moonlight Parade: The day after the main Battle is the evening Parade,
where the floats are covered in thousands of lights. As on the previous day's event it takes
place on Victoria Avenue. Starting around 20.30 and finishing just before 23.00 there is an
entry fee to this spectacular event.
Branchage Film Festival : Held in the autumn the annual Branchage Film Festival is one
of the highlights of the Jersey calendar. Numerous films are shown over 4 days in some un-
usual buildings as were as some of the islands more significant landmarks. At times films
and live music are combined to create inspirational productions. For up to date informa-
tion check the Branchage Film Festival website.
CAMRA Real Ale Festival: Every September the local branch of CAMRA organise a
real ale festival, which is held on People's Park, in a large marquee. In addition to the wide
range of real ales on offer, a range of cider is available plus food. One of the highlights is
on the Saturday evening when there is normally live music.
During the winter months a smaller scale real ale festival has been held in recent years,
which is proving to be very popular with locals.
