In-Depth Information
The marina in St Helier is ideal for visiting yachtsmen whilst the Royal Channel Island
Yacht Club has its base in St Aubin.
Skydiving: For the last 10 years people have been jumping out of airplanes over St Aubin's
Bay and landing on one of the few drop zones, which is on a beach. Skydive Jersey is able
to offer tandem jumps for those people who have no experience. So for what must be a
truly unique perspective of the Island why not contact Skydive Jersey on 01534 747410.
Stand up Paddle boarding: This is the fastest growing water sport of recent years and
they are appearing all over the island. The main centre is St Brelade's Bay, most days there
will be a number of paddlers out on their boards, and they also appearing in the surf of St
Ouen's Bay. As the popularity of stand up paddle boarding grows they are starting to ap-
pear at numerous locations around the island
Some of the commercial providers on the Island, such as Active Island Sports and Absolute
Adventures are now offering SUP as an activity. A specialist provider is Wind Madness ,
who offers a range of products including specific fitness training.
If you decide to take your SUP into the surf it is important to avoid the busier areas of St
Ouen's Bay, in the interest of the safety of the other water users and to maintain good rela-
tionships with other members of the surfing community.
Sub-Aqua: The clear waters around Jersey are ideal for diving, either with snorkelling
equipment or with air tanks for the more adventurous.
The focus for diving in Jersey is probably Bouley Bay, it offers sheltered water most of the
year with good visibility. Due to the gradient of the beach it is never too far to the water,
so diving is possible at al stages of the tide. Further information and training is available
from the Bouley Bay Dive Centre or by calling 01534 866990.
Dive Jersey also offers training and other diving opportunities at a range of venues around
the Island. They also arrange snorkelling trips from their charter boat. Contact them via
the website or 01534 880934.
