Eating out is an important part of the local lifestyle and this is reflected in the diversity of Campo Grande's restaurants.
There are scores of lanchonetes , east along Rua Dom Aquino, and, during hot afternoons, the city's many juice bars do
brisk business: you'll find them on most street corners. This is a cattle-ranching market centre and if you're mad for beef
you're in for a treat. However, there are also vegetarian options and several good oriental restaurants. For Japanese yaki
soba , head to the Feira Central (see p.444).

Italian restaurant and pizzeria, the popular Cantina
Romana serves up large portions of top-notch Italian food,
including a very good lasagne. There's a good atmosphere,
fine wines and a/c; all at very fair prices. Mon-Fri

Gaúcho Gastão Rua Dr. Zerbine 38 T 67 3028 4326,
W gauchogastao.com.br. This traditional family-owned
churrascaria in front of Campo Grande Shopping serves up
the best meat in town at reasonable prices. It's either a
rodizio service (R$53), when waiters come to your table with
different cuts of meat until you beg them to stop, or por
quilo (R$40). Don't leave without trying the house speciality,
the beef ribs ( costela bovino ). Daily 11am-2.30pm.

Casa Colonial Av Afonso Pena 3997, Jardim dos Estados

churrascaria , this classy place serves excellent Brazilian
rodizio , where you can eat meat till you drop. Expensive, but
the decor is refined and there's an impressive wine cellar.

Casa do Peixe Rua Dr João Pires 1030 T 67 3382 7121,
W casadopeixe.com.br. This long-running, down-to-
earth fish restaurant with a sterling reputation has been
known to attract Brazilian celebrities passing through
Sabor Em Quilo Rua Dom Aquino 1786, T 67 3352
5102. An excellent Japanese-run restaurant offering good
self-service lunches in a spacious, cool, clean environment.
There are plenty of vegetarian options, the sushi is tasty
and it also serves more traditional Brazilian feijoada . Other
branches around the city include one on Barão do Rio
Branco 1118. Daily 11.30am-3pm.
DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
Most of Campo Grande's action happens at weekends, when the churrascarias and other large restaurants generally
serve their food to the energetic sounds of Paraguayan polkas and serrtanejo folk music. Nightclubs come and go at an
alarming speed, but live music bars are extremely popular among both young and old.

Grande's live music bars, Café Mostarda lures in the crowds
with its buzzing atmosphere, pleasant decor and outdoor
seating. The menu is simple and on the pricey side, but the
likes of Caesar salad and bite-sized battered fish are perfect
accompaniments to ice-cold beers and fruity caipirinhas .

Territorio do Vinho Rua Euclides da Cunha 485

wine bar attracts well-heeled locals with its dimly lit
interior, jazz tunes and Italian-Brazilian fusion cuisine. With
more than 400 labels on the iPad menu, this is the place to
get acquainted with Brazilian wine. Ask about wine
tastings and book ahead. Mon-Sat 7pm-1am.
ENTERTAINMENT
Teatro Glauce Rocha Fifteen minutes out of town in
Cidade Universitária. Often hosts interesting Brazilian
