ACCOMMODATION
The area by the old, now abandoned rodoviária on
Rua Joaquim Nabuco 200
is fine during the day but a little rough by
night, yet there are reasonable budget and mid-range choices one street west of it, around the junction of
Rua Barão do
Rio Branco
and
Rua Allan Kardek
. The more central
pousadas
and hotels within a few blocks of the
Praça Ari Coelho
are closer to the modern city's heart. The district south of
Avenida Afonso Pena
also has a dodgy reputation. If in doubt,
