Bosque dos Buritis

Just two blocks west of the Centro Cívico, the woods of the Bosque dos Buritis spread
over 125,000 square metres and contain a huge water-jet fountain as well as the free
but small and not very exciting Museu de Arte de Goiânia (MAG) , which displays
paintings of the city and stone sculptures.

The small Museu de Arte Contemporânea (MAC) , lost in the concrete depths of the
city's business heart in the Parthenon Centre, has a good selection of Brazilian and
international painting with frequently changing exhibits.

Museu Zoroastro Artiaga

Just next to the Centro Cívico, the Museu Zoroastro Artiaga exhibits mainly artefacts,
crafts and art from the region, but also houses roaming exhibitions, sometimes of
ethnographic interest.
Praça Universitária

A fifteen-minute walk or short bus ride from the Centro Cívico, the Praça Universitária
is a tree-shaded open space among the faculties of the Universidade Federal de Goiás.
The Praça's paved areas are much favoured by the city's skateboarders, while the grassy
areas double as an open-air sculpture gallery featuring interesting modern works such
as Julio Valente's Venus 2000 and Leía Leal's Gestante .
Museu Antropológico

Among the faculty buildings on the southern side of Praça Universitária, the
University's Museu Antropológico is home to a surprisingly wide range of traditional
indigenous handicrafts and hosts regular temporary exhibitions too.
Jardim Zoológico

One of the town's main outdoor features, the Jardim Zoológico , located some nine long
blocks west of Avenida Goiás along Avenida Anhanguera, is a pleasant and well-managed
public park. At its northern end around the muddy Lago das Rosas, the park is home
to a number of semi-tame monkeys, while the southern corner houses a large and
well-stocked zoo , which is a must for anyone interested in wildlife. You'll see emas (rheas),
tuiuiús (red-throated storks) and jacarés (alligators) closer here than you will in the wild.
Museu de Ornitológia

Easily the most interesting museum in town, even for non-birdwatchers, is the Museu
de Ornitológia , out in the Campinas sector, which displays around six thousand stuffed
birds, mostly with an eye to distinguishing different species for the benefit of those
studying them in the wild. The museum also features mammals and reptiles.
