is a tree-shaded open space among the faculties of the Universidade Federal de Goiás.

One of the town's main outdoor features, the
Jardim Zoológico
, located some nine long
blocks west of Avenida Goiás along Avenida Anhanguera, is a pleasant and well-managed
public park. At its northern end around the muddy Lago das Rosas, the park is home
to a number of semi-tame monkeys, while the southern corner houses a large and
well-stocked
zoo
, which is a must for anyone interested in wildlife. You'll see
emas
(rheas),
tuiuiús
(red-throated storks) and
jacarés
(alligators) closer here than you will in the wild.

Easily the most interesting museum in town, even for non-birdwatchers, is the

de Ornitológia
, out in the Campinas sector, which displays around six thousand stuffed
birds, mostly with an eye to distinguishing different species for the benefit of those
studying them in the wild. The museum also features mammals and reptiles.
