In-Depth Information
One of the first things visitors note when they arrive in Goiânia is the size of
the place - its modern skyline dominates the horizon for some time before you
reach the city's limits. Yet as a destination it is more than a little dull, its best
feature being a network of green spaces and
praças.
It lacks any sites of outstanding
interest though the
Museu Memorial do Cerrado
makes for an interesting out-of-
town trip.
The main node of the concentric city plan is the
Centro Cívico
, at the head of
Avenida Goiás, whose broad and leafy pavement extends all the way down its
middle. The city is divided into several sectors, the most important being the Setor
Central, Setor Oeste and Setor Universitário; many of the streets have numbers
rather than names.
