taking about 90min to get there. There's also a faster lancha
rapida , which takes 30-40min but costs about R$20 (these
go when full, which can be every few minutes during
summer weekends). Heading back, for both services just turn
up at the main dock in Morro and then you pay on board.
From Salvador Several boats run back and forth between
the Terminal Turístico in Salvador (see box, p.225) and the
ferry dock in Morro every day, beginning at 8.30am and

usually running every hour or so till 2pm - boats back
usually start at 9am with the last one at 3pm. Fares start at
around R$75 for a one-way trip on a fast boat ( lancha ) or
larger catamaran (usually a bit cheaper coming back); trips
take about two and a half hours, but be warned, the sea can
be rough, even on a fine day. See Bio Tur ( W biotur.com.br)

INFORMATION AND TOURS
Tourist information Behind the sea gate lies a small
tourist o ce that hands out useful maps (daily 8am-10pm;
T 75 3652 1083, W morrosp.com.br, W morrodesaopaulo
.com.br).
Services Cash is king in Morro, so make sure you bring
enough. There are ATMs at Bradesco and Banco do Brasil on
the main plaza, but these often run out. Cyber Fonte internet
café on Rua Fonte is open daily 8am-10pm (R$0.15/minute).
Boipeba and boat tours The cluster of kiosks along the
path from the dock to the plaza (and along the beaches)
all sell ferry tickets and the standard day-trip around Ilha

de Boipeba (see p.236) which costs R$130 usually and
R$100 on Mondays; they take in the natural pools at
Garapuá (along the southern coast of Tinharé), Boca da
Barra beach on Boipeba, lunch on Boipeba with another
beach stop, plus a final stop on Ilha de Cairu as the boat
makes a complete circumnavigation of Tinharé. If you
intend to stay on Boipeba these boats will usually drop
you off for half the rate of a normal tour; see

can also take a 4WD drive followed by a short boat ride to
Boipeba from Segunda Praia (see p.236).

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation on the island is all expensive relative to Salvador, particularly at holiday times; it's the price of being
trendy. Most of the larger places are self-contained pousadas , with their own restaurant and bar. Nearly all places are
within a stone's throw of the beaches. All those listed have free wi-fi unless stated otherwise.
