Moderately priced premises serving the best Italian food
in the bairro . Among the excellent range of pasta dishes,
the penne ai quattro formaggi costs R$35.50, or there

pp.76-77. Does inexpensive dishes made with only
natural ingredients, including several veg options. There's
gnocchi made with manioc (R$11.45), and at weekends,
a hearty feijoada is served - R$12 for the vegetable

pp.76-77. Always busy, this bar entered the folk annals of
Rio de Janeiro when the song The Girl from Ipanema was
written here one night by the composer Tom Jobim. While
certainly touristy (with unexceptional food), there are few
better places in Ipanema for a beer (R$6 for a 350ml
chopp ). Daily 11am-2am.

of reasonably priced and very tasty salads and grilled
dishes (such as Angus steak at R$59) makes this an
Ipanema favourite - and in fourteen other spots around
the city. The set menu is R$30. Daily noon-midnight.

Bazzar Rua Barão da Torre 538 T 21 3202 2884,

modern restaurant, with elegantly functional, almost
Japanese-style decor. House specialities include palm
hearts and plantain in coconut milk (R$41.30) or
Búzios shark in manioc purée (R$45.99). Mon-Sat

café branch of Bazzar , which is super-cool and modern in
style - a perfect spot for a break from Ipanema's main
shopping area, with coffee and light meals such as
spaghetti in tomato sauce for R$30, or alla carbonara for

served only on Saturdays, feijoada is offered seven days
a week here (R$78), along with other traditional,
moderately priced and extremely filling Brazilian dishes.

say, between a restaurant and a fast-food joint, the food
here is fast, but healthy, with lots of veg options such as
salads (R$11.20-16.30) and vegetarian burgers (R$7.50),
as well as light fish or meat options. In fact it's part of a
chain, with other branches around town. Mon-Sat
11am-4pm, Sun in winter 11am-7pm, Sun in summer
noon-8pm.

(there's a branch by Flamengo beach), this huge restaurant
serves a rodizio of high-quality cuts of meat (R$112),
including choices from the mediterrâneo salad bar.

speciality (fish baked in rock salt, for example, at R$97),
though there's also a range of interesting pasta choices,
too. The ingredients are as fresh as can be and the dishes
beautifully presented, but it's just a touch too formal. Daily

imaginative fusion cuisine, colourful decor and a terrace
with a street-life view make this a popular spot
with tourists and trendy locals alike. There's a lunch menu
for R$39, and à la carte dishes such as chicken curry in
coconut milk for R$49 or flambéed scampi for R$65. Mon &
