branches off vul Lenina, this little guesthouse is 'managed by two grannies and a grand-

she is also the leader of the Crimean Tatar teachers' union and a mine of knowledge on
all Tatar-related issues. Rooms are modern and have private bathrooms. There is a large
dining area on the 1st floor with a kitchen, a library and a ping-pong table. Dilara's
daughter speaks English.

( 477 40; vul Vostochnaya 11; r per person 60-80uah) An artistic couple from Moscow made
this place their home many decades ago. Their paintings hang in a downstairs room,
which passes as a museum. The place is currently run by rangers from the Mountain Res-
cue Service and is popular with young artists who stay here for weeks. Rooms are tiny
and spartan, with three to four beds each. Once you find the street, look out for a garden
filled with vintage Soviet army jeeps, lovingly maintained by the rangers.

) This nine-room guesthouse just 200m from the Khans' Palace is a long-time favour-
ite among travellers, though it lacks the personal welcome of the town's homestays.
Rooms are fairly austere, but bathrooms are post-millenium and there's a pleasant garden
for summer barbecues.
