like a beehive, this old Soviet dinosaur has hundreds of musty rooms and a swimming
pool. Hot water is switched off at 10pm until 6am next morning.

hotel is good value for the price, considering its location in the Old Town, close to
Dzhuma-Dzhami Mosque.
Ukraine Palace HOTEL$$$

open-air pool, modern and tastefully decorated rooms, Ukraine Palace is about the best
place to stay in Yevpatoriya, but you need to book two or three weeks in advance during
the high season.
Eating
Kezlev Kyavesi CRIMEAN TATAR$
(vul Karayeva 13; coffee 20uah) The gorgeous looking and tasting Tatar sweets and Turkish
coffee served in this cafe, inside Gezlev gate, alone justify a visit to the town. The adven-
turous may try kypchak tea made with milk, pepper, salt and sugar. For more substantial
Crimean Tatar meals, head to the excellent Dzheval restaurant across the road, run by the
same people. We also have high expectations of the hotel they are due to open in the vi-
cinity.
Karaman KARAITE$
(Karaimskaya 68; mains 35-55uah; noon-10pm) The former charity canteen in the kenassa
houses this excellent cafe, which gives you a chance to sample Karaite cuisine. Similar to
