Souvenir Market

You ain't seen a tacky Ukrainian souvenir market until you've
visited Yaremche's. Now reaching absurd dimensions, it's centred around a former
beauty spot where a footbridge crosses the river. The rocks below the bridge are still a
pretty place to picnic, mainly as from there you can't see the market.
Dovbush Cliffs
LANDMARK
A popular activity in Yaremche (second only to souvenir shopping) is a hike to the
nearby Dovbush Cliffs. To get there, take the not-too-taxing trail that rises on the oppos-
ite side of the main road to the turn-off for the exclusive hotel enclave at the far southern
end of town, 2.5km south of the train station. The caves are actually a series of boulders,
which were pushed off a cliff to form shelters that outlaws once used as hideouts. With
several looped trails around here, you could spend anything from half an hour to three
hours walking.
Sleeping & Eating
Yaremche has no lack of places to sleep, but addresses can be literally miles from the sta-
tions and almost impossible to find on unmarked streets. We encountered several proper-
ties that were less than truthful about their locations on popular booking websites. Organ-
ising a station pick-up could save you lots of legwork.
For such a tourist magnet, Yaremche has surprisingly few places to eat.

The nine rooms at
this very friendly timber guesthouse are furnished jumble-sale style, but bathrooms are
post-Soviet and things are pretty spacious, especially in the loft. There's a guest kitchen
in the basement, and the guesthouse has its own riverside pavilion and semi- private
stretch of beach. Breakfast is 20uah to 42uah extra, dinner 85uah. To reach Mriya, follow
the signposts from the war memorial near the Vopak supermarket.
