In-Depth Information
( 220 52; vul Pidskelna 10; s/d from 180/360uah; ) This brand-new 22-room hotel has
the advantage of being easy to find and a location close to the stations. Well-proportioned
rooms are a touch plasticky with synthetic fabrics, nylon carpets and faux veneer fur-
niture, but everything is spotless and functional and all have balconies with evergreen
forest views. Take the first left (vul Pidskelna) after the Vopak supermarket (heading
from the bus statio n) - it's a short walk away on the right. No breakfast outside summer
months.
Krasna Sadyba HOTEL$$$
( 222 53, 212 75; www.krasnasadyba.if.ua ; vul Ivasyuka 6; r 250-600uah) In a secluded corner
yet just minutes from the town centre, this red-brick hotel on the river looks like
something from Hansel and Gretel . Most of the 15 rooms are spacious and well fur-
nished, and the few more basic rooms are good bargains.
Kolyba Krasna Sadyba HUTSUL$
(vul Ivasyuka 6; mains 15-40uah; 9am-10pm) Krasna Sadyba's kolyba (wooden hut) is
rightfully considered the best eating spot in Yaremche, serving sumptuous spit-roasted
pork, beef shashlyk (shish kebab), chicken wings or salmon on a terrace overlooking a
leafy, quiet stretch of river. Borshch, forest mushroom soup, carp, trout, kulesha or
banosh (two kinds of polenta typical for the Carpathians) are other options.
Hutsulshchyna HUTSUL$$$
( 223 78; vul Svobody; mains 30-112uah) Quite understandably the backdrop to many
souvenir photos, this ornate log cabin, with its central spire and understated sprinkling of
Hutsul colour, serves pretty decent food. The menu includes river fish, forest mush-
rooms, polenta, pancakes and all sorts of other authentically prepared regional fare. It's
located near the souvenir market, around 1.5km south of the train station.
