Perform the following steps to install vCenter Server:
1.
From the VMware vCenter Installer, select vCenter Single Sign-On and then click the
Install button.

Select the appropriate language and click OK.
3.
From the installer welcome screen, click Next to continue.

Select the radio button to accept the end-user license agreement and click Next.
6.
Enter your vCenter Server license key or leave it blank to start a 60-day trial, then
click Next.

At this point you must select whether to use SQL Server 2008 Express Edition or a sepa-
rate database server.
If the environment will be small (a single vCenter Server with fewer than i ve hosts
or fewer than 50 VMs), then using SQL Server 2008 Express is acceptable. For all other
deployments, select Use An Existing Supported Database, and select your ODBC DSN
from the drop-down list. If you forgot to create the ODBC DSN, you'll need to create it
and restart the installation process in order to continue. For the rest of this procedure,
we'll assume that you are using an existing supported database. Select the ODBC DSN
you created earlier, and click Next.
ODBC to DB
An ODBC DSN must be defi ned, and the name must match in order to move past the database
confi guration page of the installation wizard. Remember to set the appropriate authentication
strategy and user permissions for an existing database server. If you receive an error at this point
in the installation, revisit the database confi guration steps. Remember to set the appropriate
database ownership and database roles.

If you are using SQL authentication, then the next screen prompts for the SQL login and
password that have permissions to the SQL database created for vCenter Server. Login
information is not required if you are using Windows authentication, so you can just
leave these i elds blank. If the SQL Server Agent service is not running on the SQL Server
computer, you'll receive an error at this step and won't be able to proceed. Make sure the
SQL Server Agent service is running. Unless you have specii cally coni gured the data-
base server differently than the default settings, a dialog box pops up warning you about
the Full recovery model and the possibility that transaction logs may grow to consume
all available disk space.
