When NOT to sharpen
If you're going to resize the image, apply noise reduction and/or sharpen it in
another program (such as Photoshop), turn of all sharpening in the Lightroom
export settings and do your i nal sharpening later in the workl ow.
METADATA
h is section of the Export window provides controls for how each i le's
metadata is handled during the export; see Figure 5-12.

Minimize Embedded Metadata
Ticking this checkbox will limit the amount of metadata from the original
i les that will be copied into the newly exported i les (all except the copyright
notice). h e purpose for this is to allow you to create smaller i les: depending
on how much other metadata you've applied, this can result in signii cant
savings in i le size. If you need to export i les at the smallest possible size,
enable this option. Just be aware that any other metadata—including
keywords—will not carry over to the new i les.
Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy
If you use keyword hierarchies in Lightroom, checking this box will preserve
these parent/child relationships when the keywords are written into the
exported i les. Note that this keyword structure may not be respected by other
sot ware; the only real benei t here is when you're going to import the i les into
another Lightroom catalog, in which case you will retain the hierarchies you've
previously created. I typically leave this of .
WATERMARKING
Lightroom 3's watermarking is one of the most useful new tools. A “watermark”
is a text or graphical overlay that appears on your photo(s). You've no doubt
seen countless photos with watermarks on the Web—they are most ot en used
to identify the creator or copyright owner of the image.
