In-Depth Information
If you have used Bridge to apply color labels, be aware that the names of the
default color labels dif er in Lightroom and Bridge. Lightroom of ers a built-in
color label set that matches that of Bridge but it's not the default.

Custom label names
On the Metadata panel, you can type
any text into the Label i eld (see Figure
3-59), but the i ve standard colors listed above are the only ones that will actually
show a color on the thumbnail.
Figure 3-59
h e important thing to understand is that the Label i eld itself is simply editable
text (whereas l ags and stars are invariable) so you can enter anything you want for
the label dei nition. But if you want the thumbnail to show a color you must use
the standard color names.
Photo Auto Advance
With Auto Advance enabled, as you apply any attributes to images in Library
( l ags, stars, etc.) Lightroom automatically selects the next image in the current
source.
Disappearing thumbnails
During an edit, if you change any of the attributes of a photo and it disappears
from view, it's because i lters are enabled. Change or disable the i lter set
(discussed in the next section).
FLAGS
Pick l ags and their opposites, reject l ags, may be
the simplest form of editing decision—yes or no.
You can apply a pick l ag by clicking the l ag icon
in the top let of the photo's thumbnail (see Figure
3-60) or you can use the keyboard shortcuts.

Unlike ratings and labels, l ags are specii c to the
source in which they are applied. For example, if
you apply a pick l ag to a photo in a folder, and then
put that photo in a collection, the photo will be
unl agged in the collection. (You could reapply the
l ag in the collection.) h is is intended behavior;
l ags are meant to be used mainly in source-specii c editing.

Pick l ag status is not written to XMP metadata
I prefer to use stars for most of my editing because the star ratings can be saved
out to the i les or read by other sot ware. Flags are only visible in Lightroom.
