There's a Banrural right on the plaza where you can exchange dollars and travelers checks.
Getting There
Ferry service ($2.50) departs Santiago for Panajachel at 6, 7, and 11:45 A.M., 12:30, 1:30,
2, and 4:30 P.M. The ferry crossing takes about an hour and there is also faster
lancha
ser-
vice. There are also frequent boats to San Pedro from here. There are seven daily buses
leaving from the central plaza for Cocales and Guatemala City between 3 A.M. and 3 P.M.
in addition to pickups for San Lucas Tolimán. Frequent pickups to San Pedro leave from
Hotel Chi-Nim-Ya.
San Lucas is probably the least attractive of the lakeside villages, though the adjacent area
is as gorgeous as the rest of the lake. It makes a good place to get away from it all. If
