In-Depth Information
Surrounding the railroad museum is Cottonwood Island Nature Park —one of Prince
George's 16 city parks and a beautiful spot for a quiet stroll or picnic. The park lies beside
the Nechako River, which overflows each spring; over time, sediment from the overflow
has built up an island. The park's dominant feature is an extensive forest of northern black
cottonwood trees. In spring, sticky buds cover the cottonwoods, and in summer the air is
thick and the ground white with seed-bearing tufts of fluff.
