In-Depth Information
Accommodations and Camping
On the north side of downtown is the Quality Inn & Suites (753 Front St., 250/992-7247
or 800/663-8090, www.qualityinnquesnel.com , $99-179 s or d). Most of the 85 rooms are
slightly dated, although the larger rooms, with more modern furnishings and particularly
spacious bathrooms, along with microwaves and toasters, are the best value. Rates include
a hot breakfast and use of a barbeque area and patio.
For campers who don't need services, the best bet is to head north 11 kilometers
(6.8 miles) to Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park (519/826-6850 or 800/689-9025,
www.discovercamping.ca , mid-May-Sept., $16). Of the park's two campgrounds, Lakeside
is best (sites 4-9 are closest to the water) and has hot showers and flush toilets ($16 per
night). During the week, snagging a spot isn't usually a problem, but on weekends the
campground fills with Quesnel locals who come for the swimming, fishing, and relaxing
on the sandy beach. Closer to town is Robert's Roost RV Park (3121 Gook Rd., 250/
747-2015 or 888/227-8877, www.robertsroostcampsite.ca , Apr.-Oct., $22-35), on the west
side of Dragon Lake. To get there, take Highway 97 south, turn east on Gook Road, and go
to the end. Amenities include coin showers, a laundry, free wireless Internet, a playground,
boat rentals, and a narrow stretch of sand with swimming.
Food
Downtown, Granville's Coffee (383 Reid St., 250/992-3667, 7am-9pm Mon.-Sat.,
8am-5pm Sun, $6-10) is one of the few non-chain places in town selling coffee. It also has
the usual array of lunch choices and a few roadside tables out beside the sidewalk.
In an unassuming strip mall on the west side of town, Bliss (462 Anderson Dr., 250/
992-7066, 8am-7pm Mon.-Fri., 10am-8pm Sat, $7-14) is part Canadian (think
poutine—fries topped with gravy and cheese curds), part East Indian (a delicious butter
chicken) and everything in between (butter chicken pizza!), but the food is all very tasty
and inexpensive.
Information
Quesnel Visitor Centre is beside Lebourdais Park (703 Carson Ave., 250/992-8716 or 800/
992-4922, www.tourismquesnel.com , 8am-8pm daily in summer, 8:30am-4:30pm Mon.-
Fri. the rest of the year).
