In-Depth Information
Eight kilometers (five miles) west of Quesnel on Baker Drive are the geologically in-
triguing, glacially eroded hoodoos at Pinnacles Provincial Park. The viewpoint is one
kilometer (0.6 mile) from the day-use area; allow 40 minutes for the round-trip. Another
local provincial park is Ten Mile Lake, 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) north of town. Fishing is
regarded as good for rainbow trout, and there's a large beaver dam near the day-use area.
Events
The main event in Quesnel is Billy Barker Days (250/992-1234, www.billybarkerdays.ca ) ,
named for the prospector who made the first gold strike in the Cariboo. Over the third week-
end of July, downtown streets are closed to traffic in favor of an outdoor crafts fair, parade,
and dancing. Residents casually stroll around town in period costumes from the gold-min-
ing days—men in cowboy hats, women in slinky long dresses with brightly feathered hats.
The Quesnel Rodeo is one of some 150 events staged during the festival.
