In-Depth Information
We carry on to the intersection of Hwy 29 and Hwy 97, the Alaska Highway. At this con-
fluence, just north of Fort St John, lies Charlie Lake Provincial Park. It's a pretty place with
its endless stands of white birch, the floor of the forest carpeted in creeping bunchberry. In
a few months this groundcover will explode with brilliant red berries but this early, what's
showing are white flowers that look like miniature dogwoods.
Lovely place to spend the evening, but the “evening” never ends. We are now so far north
that even past midnight parents cannot get their kids to bed. They race round and round the
campground on their bikes and ATVs. I stick in my earplugs and pull over the eyeshades.
This light-all-night thing is only going to get worse so best adjust.
